Paint Disposal
Many of us start cleaning out our garages and basements and find some old paint. Maybe you are just moving into a new house and there is a closet full of paint.
How do you get rid of it?
The problem is that paint cannot be thrown away in it's liquid form.
You can always leave the lid off and let the sunshine do the work, but sometimes that can take forever.
Small amounts of paint
Try painting some cardboard boxes. This will make the paint dry quickly and it won't cost anything. Once it's dry, you can throw away the cardboard inside of your normal trash can
(broke down and bagged and tied please so it doesn't blow out of our trucks).
Large amounts of paint
For large amounts of paint, we need to bulk it up before disposal! Mixing kitty litter or other absorbent materials like sawdust, dirt, or sand in with the paint will expedite the hardening process. Add some of the material to the paint, mix it around, and let it sit for a couple of hours. Check back and repeat the process until the paint is absorbed.
There are some paint hardening products that you can also purchase at some stores.
Once the paint is bulked up and hardened, you can throw it away in your regular garbage.
