Plastic #3

Found in very few items but could be in window cleaner and detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, cooking oil bottles, and clear food packaging.
​This type of plastic is very difficult to recycle.

​LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene)

Found in squeezable bottles, plastic bags, tote bags, clothing, carpet

This type of plastic is also a hard plastic to recycle. 
If you have any grocery bags or shopping bags that have a recycling symbol on it, you can take it back to Safeway or Walmart and place it in their recycling bin near the entrance. 

Any bottles can be recycled with the City of Rapid City through the curbside program or at one of the remote sites.

PP (Polypropylene)

Found in some yogurt containers, syrup bottles, caps, straws, medicine bottles

Polypropylene has a really high melting point, which is often why it is chosen to contain hot liquids.
​This is also a really tough material to recycle. 
Straws are not able to be recycled because of their size!

Any bottles can be recycled with the City of Rapid City through the curbside program or at one of the remote sites. 

Plastic #6
PS (polystyrene)

Found in disposable plates and cups, meat trays, egg cartons, carry out containers, aspirin bottles

Polystyrene can be made into rigid or foam products - it is usually known as Styrofoam. 

Most of these items are not recyclable in Rapid City. 
You can place medicine bottles inside of the recycling cans but that is it. 
The rest is garbage! :(

Found in three and five gallons water bottles and kitty litter containers

These are recyclable in Rapid City! 
​You can place them inside of your curbside container or at the remote sites.
